Who We Are
Global Organic Textile Standard
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
The aim of the standard is to define requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer. Textile processors and manufacturers are enabled to export their organic fabrics and garments with one certification accepted in all major markets.
Our vision is that organic textiles will become a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people’s lives and the environment.
Our mission is the development, implementation, verification, protection and promotion of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This standard stipulates requirements throughout the supply chain for both ecology and labour conditions in textile and apparel manufacturing using organically produced raw materials. Organic production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides and fertilizers. In addition, organic production relies on adequate animal husbandry and excludes genetic modification.
We see ourselves as contributing to sustainable development and actively cooperate with all relevant stakeholders.

Textile Exchange is a global non-profit that works closely with our members to drive industry transformation in preferred fibers, integrity and standards and responsible supply networks. We identify and share best practices regarding farming, materials, processing, traceability and product end-of-life in order to reduce the textile industry’s impact on the world’s water, soil and air, and the human population.
We believe that integrity is the foundation of sustainability. Our standards work to support the integrity of product claims by providing verification from an independent third-party. The Textile Exchange standards have been developed by a multi-stakeholder approach to address gaps in current industry standards.
Textile Exchange follows the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice for standard-setting bodies to ensure we have a robust and transparent processes for our standards. This includes set policies for Standard Setting, Accreditation and Certification. Our standards include: Content Claim Standard (CCS), Organic Content Standard (OCS), Recycled Claim Standard (RCS), Global Recycled Standard (GRS), Responsible Down Standard (RDS) and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) in other preferred fiber and materials.
